Sign Language

Sign language with babies & toddlers! While the concept can be intimidating for many parents, the benefits of learning even a few simple signs with your child outweigh any insecurities you may hold about trying it out. Lynx staff have a series of core signs that they try to use as much as they can with the children. Your child might know a few without you even knowing! If your family already signs at home please share with our team which signs you use so we can continue the practice with your child during their time in daycare!
There are many benefits to children learning sign language at an early age.
Practical- Less fussing, more fun. All of our children are still developing their abilities to communicate with us. Sign language is a stepping stone of communicating and can ease children’s frustrations by providing them a way to say what they’re thinking before they can say it! Parents/children who learn sign language have less moments of frustration throughout the day.
  • Creates a closer parental/caregiver bond- Children are social creatures and being able to communicate with you- their favourite people- creates a stronger bond between you. Parents who learn signs with their children often report higher confidence in their parenting skills because they feel more in-tune with their children’s needs.
  • Cognitive- Learning to sign at an early age helps children develop their language and reasoning skills. Children who learn early in life often have greater success with reading and develop larger vocabularies.

Here are a few to get you started! Ask your Primary which ones they use the most at daycare!

Whether you're a professional caregiver or you're caring for your own loved ones, you are susceptible to caregiver stress and burnout. Caregiving can be a very rewarding experience. It allows us the opportunity to truly impact and improve the quality of life for someone else. However, it can also be a very demanding job, both emotionally and physically.

If there is one thing I wish I learned as a child, it is sign language. I think that it is a great idea to teach children as early as possible to know how to do sign language. There are so many deaf people who find it hard to communicate with people who do not know how to sign language. We must exert time and effort to learn sign language, so we can help deaf people to easily relay their message. It may seem like a small gesture, but I guarantee you that it is a huge help for the deaf community.

Looking at potentially introducing this to Search And Rescue
