Melyssa Sieber
Bobcat Program Lead Educator - Eagles Room, ECE
I’m Melyssa and I am pleased to be the Lead Educator in the Eagles classroom at the School House!
Originally from the Boston area on the East Coast of the United States, I have lived in many places– including Portland, Australia, Colorado, Ecuador and Vancouver, before my husband and I settled our family in the Kootenays in 2016. I have worked with young children, supporting families, and as an educator for more than 20 years. My undergraduate degree is in History from Lewis & Clark in Portland, and I have post-bachelor’s diplomas in Montessori Primary education (through the Association Montessori Internationale) and Fine Arts (Emily Carr University of Art + Design), as well as a BC independent school teaching certificate and Early Childhood Educator license to practice. I'm passionate about supporting children's innate curiosity and desire to explore the world. I believe in allowing children a considerable amount of freedom to follow their own interests and come to their own conclusions within a safe and secure environment, and that each person has something unique and valuable to share. My approach is underpinned by a focus on authentic personal connection as well as a strong belief in the role of nature for inspiration and regulation. I aspire to be a present, attentive and trustworthy adult for all of the children I work with, and a reliable, strong ally for their families. Beyond the grounds of our school, you’re likely to cross paths with me in the lift line at Whitewater with my family, on the local trails with my dogs, or on the lake in our beloved red canoe. |
