About Our Classroom
We are very fortunate at The School House to run our programs at an enhanced staff ratio. Standard ratio for a group of toddlers is 1:4; however we staff above this to ensure an elevated level of quality care and work environment for the children and staff. Our renovations are complete, aside from a few paint touch ups! This means we now have our new license and have two separate classrooms. The Beavers Classroom, (licensed for 12) and The Raccoons Classroom, (licensed for 8). Currently the photos here are outdated and do not show our new window and exterior door in the Beavers room, but will be updated soon! We have implemented a system of Primary Care in our center; therefore, your child will have a specific Educator assigned to them for the duration of their time in our classroom. This Educator will be responsible for building a strong relationship with you and your child. They will ensure your child's daily needs are met and information regarding their growth, development and play is shared with you on a regular basis. This model of Primary Care fosters a sense of community and builds relationships between children, parents and educators. Through this system the children are able to build a healthy attachment to their Educators, which establishes a strong sense of well-being and belonging while they are in our care. Our team of Educators are provided time away from the classroom each week to document and record observations for the children in their Primary Care. Our Educators author Pedagogical Narrations for our Early Learning Blog. In addition, they engage in research based on their observations in the classroom. Our Educators regularly attend Reflective Practice staff meetings and an assortment of other Professional Development Opportunities to maintain their licenses to practice in British Columbia. The children in the Lynx Classroom enjoy a wide variety of invitations to play, ranging from sensory, music & dance, gardening, art, loose parts and much more. We enjoy much of our day together outdoors, rain or shine. We employ a philosophy of free movement; therefore, you will not see restraints such as high-chairs being used in our classroom. We view the children as competent, capable co-constructors of their learning. Infants are fed when hungry and are helped with their nap whenever they need a rest. All 'care routines' for infants are viewed as a time for connection and attachment building. The School House ECLC operates as a 'Reggio-inspired' center.
