The Schoolhouse stands and grieves with the Tk’emlups te Secwépemc First Nation, the families of the children who attended the Kamloops Indian Residential school and the families of all children who attended any residential Schools in Canada. We open our hearts and hold space for the unimaginable pain that this recent finding of this mass burial site has inflicted on all Indigenous people.
We join you all in great sorrow and knowing that this is just the beginning, of the pain, the grief and the healing. We stand beside you in the knowing of how wronged the people of this land have been. We stand beside you in moving forward in a good way, honoring the Indigenous people of this land and ensuring all of the Truth and Reconciliation’s 94 calls to Action are fully recognized and honored by all of the peoples of Canada.
We share this beautiful offering by Abigail Echo-hawk in honor of the 215 children that lost their lives at the Kamloops Indian Residential School.

When they buried the children
What they didn’t know
They were lovingly embraced
By the land
Held and cradled in a Mothers heart
The trees wept for them, with the wind
they sang mourning songs their mothers
didn’t know to sing
Bending branches to touch the earth
around them. The Creator cried for them
the tears falling like rain.
Mother Earth held the
Until they could be found.
Now our voices sing the mourning songs.
With the trees. the wind. light sacred fire
Ensure they are never forgotten as we sing
JUSTICE

The School House respectfully acknowledges that we are located on the traditional and unceded təmxʷulaʔxʷ (homeland) of the  Sinixt Nation. We honour their connection to and the stewardship of the land. We respect the importance of the environment and these connections to place and their impact on the strength of community. We humbly acknowledge that there is much work and learning to do and stand with the Sinixt ready and willing to listen and learn.

If you must sit at school and/or work, then move your legs and body about, but not constantly like a pendulum. Get up and go to the pencil sharpener, if possible. Step outside during your lunch break or walk to get a drink of water.

If you want to get in shape but you’re too busy to hit the gym, you need to at least get yourself up and active. Walk. Park on the far side of the parking area.
